It is well known that Tyler Perry prefers to work with cast members who aren’t as established in the Hollywood system. In an interview about his casting of Janet Jackson for Why Did I Get Married? Perry said he just prefers actors who don’t show up with an entire ensemble or the baggage that comes with them (which, thankfully for Perry, Jackson didn’t have).
With that in mind, I find it incredibly interesting that Perry is apparently currently in talks with Jennifer Hudson to join the cast of his next picture, The Family That Prays. If negotiations end up good, Hudson would join a cast that already includes some pretty big names – Sanaa Lathan, Kathy Bates, and Alfre Woodard, reports Variety. Perry must want to work with Hudson, however, since he is one of those filmmakers that doesn’t need an Oscar nominated name to tack on his picture – his audience will come with or without it.
Although I find the announcement odd, I’d like to see Hudson join Perry’s picture. Some people have doubted the actress’s ability beyond singing, calling her work on Dreamgirls a one-shot. It would be nice to see her get the chance to shine in something like a Perry film and prove the doubters wrong.

I am so happy that Tyler Perry is giving Jennifer Hudson a part in his play. I really do believe that there is more to Jennifer Hudson than singing. There are other talents that lie underneath that beautiful voice of hers and we all will see it when the film releases. I am happy that Tyler Perry has a good heart to where he gives new people who are trying to make it in the movie industry a chance. God is really going to bless him for this because not every body does this. God Bless!
