Update: Deadline is reporting that Janssen will be playing the leader of the witches.

When you have a movie titled Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, a great deal of pressure is put on finding the proper two leads. Lucky for us, up-and-comers Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton are now locked in. But where do you go from there? Surely there are still plenty of roles open, from the witches that Hansel and Gretel and hunting to even, perhaps, their piece of shit parents. While we don't know what roles are out there yet, one thing is certain: Famke Janssen will be filling one of them.

The Playlist reports that Janssen, best known for playing Jean Grey in the X-Men movies and Xenia Onatopp in the James Bond film GoldenEye, will play an unspecified part in the upcoming fairy tale action movie. Directed by Dead Snow-helmer Tommy Wirkola and written by D.W. Harper, the story follows the brother and sister pair after their first encounter with the witch at the gingerbread house and sees them turn into witch hunters as adults. The project is scheduled to begin filming next month.

Famke Janssen doesn't get nearly the amount of work she should, but this sounds like it could really be a lot of fun. The production already quickly assembled some great talent and a high-potential concept. Now if only we could know a bit more about the story and characters.
