For months now Uwe Boll has littered the internet with his bragging that his new movie Postal would open against Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. In fact we got so sick of it, we told him to go to hell. Now it looks like theater distributors are doing the same.
According to a statement issued in the wee hours of this morning by Boll’s people, the movie’s wide release next weekend has been cancelled. Instead of opening in 1500 theaters as planned, the film will now only open in 4 because United States distributors have decided to drop it. Uwe of course is calling this a boycott, saying: “Theatrical distributors are boycotting 'Postal' because of its political content,” and he demands they give him a venue. He says, “We were prepared to open on 1500 screens all across America on May 23rd. Any multiplex in the U.S. should have space for us, but they're afraid.”
I believe him when he says they’re afraid, but I think it’s far more likely that they’re afraid of losing money. None of Uwe Boll’s films has ever turned a profit, and for theater owners that means movies showing to empty houses. A sure way to theatrical bankruptcy.
Boll though, insists this is just another instance of everyone being out to get him. He continues, “We have even tried to buy a few screens in New York and Los Angeles, and they won't let us even rent the theaters! I urge independent exhibitors to contact us and book 'Postal'! Audiences have been expecting the film and I don't think exhibitors should censor what gets played in U.S. theaters.” We’ll have to take him at his word that they actually tried to buy screens, but since we don’t know the circumstances of his rejection it’s hard to know why they might have turned him down a guaranteed profit. Maybe the theaters in question simply didn’t want to look bad. Or maybe they figured that even though he might be buying the screen, no one would show up to see it and they’d still lose money on concessions. Or maybe he’s right, and everyone is out to get him because he’s so controversial and brilliant. Personally, I’m inclined to believe the problem is simply that everyone is disinterested.

Or maybe multi-plexes thought that by putting the new INDY movie into ANOTHER of their theatres, they could make a couple extra thousand dollars a day rather than rent a space that would stay empty for two weeks.
For every stupid move Hollywood makes (Donnie Darko 2) they counterbalance that with smart moves like this.
Honestly, its gonna be yet another Uwe Boll disaster and its drop from major theater chains is solid proof. Seriously, how does this guy still get work? Its appalling that he still has (in the barest sense of the word) career.
Maybe now he can just go away and we'll never have to hear from him again.
If everyone is in such agreement, then please head over and join the petition to stop him (he's promised if we get a million signatures he will quit the business... trustworthy? Probably not--but at least it may serve to help him rethink his life calling).
I was looking forward to seeing "Postal," so I'm dissapointed it's been dropped. (Note: It'll be the second Uwe Boll film I've bothered seeing. The other was "Alone in the Dark" and I remain amused that he thinks the only problem with that one was Tara Reid.)
Maybe I'll luck out and one of the four is in the Seattle area.
Thank the movie gods! This guy must be stopped from ruining video movies, that had so much potential. Boll is the only director worse than Ronald D Moore, who has been churning crappy episodes of that new Battlestar Galactica show for the past few years. It's so funny, b/c the ratings indicate that hardly anyone watches it.

My guess is that they doubt he actually has the money to pay for renting the theaters.
Can't believe that it Postal was pulled out of nearly all theaters. I luckily got to see a screening of it at work at Fontana Dist. a few months back. I personally enjoyed it and am into the buzz surrounding it and Boll. Check the trailer and comments at www.myspace.com/postalthemovie. Would have been out last Friday (5/23), but now who know is a large scale audience will ever be able to see it.

This is probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen.... Boll's movies are absolutely terrible
and if he thinks his movies are genius and US theaters don't make him money, why even try to release them here?
