Valkyrie Reshoots Finally Happening

By Ed Perkis: 2008-06-04 18:03:44
Valkyrie Reshoots Finally Happening By now, the repeated delays in the release date of Valkyrie, the movie where Tom Cruise tries to assassinate Hitler, are old news. The stated reason is that some more scenes needed to be filmed, especially one that told how Cruise’s character, Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, was wounded in battle. So, although the original plan was to release the film this month, we are now going to have to wait until next February.

I guess it was good that they did move the date, since, according to the blog of Variety editor Peter Bart, the reshoots are just now taking place. Bart says that there are three scenes being filmed, including the battle scene. Hopefully the reshoots will not need reshoots and they won’t let everyone go home until they have everything they need, or we may never see this movie.

I actually do want to see this. It’s easy to make fun of the changing release dates (and I have, twice), but I’m strongly interested in seeing Cruise in this role and have some faith in director Bryan Singer to make it an interesting movie. Bart supports my faith by saying that people he trusts have seen the film (or, at least, the film without these “key” scenes) who say it is good. That’s encouraging.

  1. Deborah Moran Says:

Well, I think that Cruise is an awesome actor who has made many other notables look even better in key scenes in great films, i.e., Hoffman in "Rain Man," and Newman in "The Color of Money," and even Nicholson in "A Few Good Men."

It is the age of criticism reigning supreme --- hardly any positive comments spew forth from anyone on anything, and everyone is an authority with the internet, but Tom Cruise is still an excellent actor who has a right (the last time I checked our American rights on freedom of religion and/or couch jumping), and I am certainly eager to see "Valkyrie" as well as "Tropic Thunder!"

The only solace available for his true fans is to contemplate the consistently loathsome appearance, intellect and (usually) spelling, grammar and punctuation of his critics!

Good Luck, Mr. Cruise in all your ventures and ignore the negative vibes. Your abilities will shine through! DM
