“I swear by God this sacred oath: That I shall render unconditional obedience to Adolf Hitler, the Fuhrer of the German Reich.” On July 20 of 1944 a German officer named Claus von Stauffenberg broke that oath by spearheading a plot to kill Hitler. They failed, and the war went on. Bryan Singer and Tom Cruise have turned von Stauffenberg’s plot a movie called Valkyrie, and now the first trailer is here.
It’s filled with gripping dialogue and Tom Cruise at the top of his game. Valkyrie looks absolutely stunning. My favorite moment involves von Stauffenberg’s rather blunt attempt to recruit a new conspirator: “I am involved in high treason, with all means available to me. Can I count you in?” Click here to watch the first Valkyrie trailer.

I'm really glad this movie has been done: it will make people more aware of the German resistance.
