Vampire Graphic Novel Finds Sponsor![]()
Graphic novels are the new Christmas. Since the release of the badass explosion known as Sin City, movie executives have found adapting these illustrated stories to be an easy way of connecting with the younger alpha male demographic. It could be argued that this infatuation is yet another example of the Hollywood bandwagon jumping on what’s currently popular, but considering the first acclaimed graphic novel was released less than thirty years ago, I would argue that it’s more of an almost universal discovery of this fascinating medium.
According to Variety, New Regency has purchased both the film and book rights to Baltimore, Or The Steadfast Tin Soldier And The Vampire. The recently published novel follows Lord Henry Baltimore and his quest to destroy his demonic arch-nemesis known as The Red King. Blade director David Goyer has signed on to direct. There’s no word yet on possible leads, but sadly, I think Wesley Snipes is too busy with tax evasion issues to embody another vampire hunter. The roots of this adaptation decision can probably be traced back to New Regency’s pledge to appeal to a younger, male audience. If there’s one thing most dudes love, it’s watching some people get their asses kicked, and if you can throw some undead into the mix, well, that’s just gravy. Bloody, bloody gravy. |
