MOVIE NEWS
Vera Farmiga Flies The Skies With George![]()
Last week the big news was that Anna Kendrick, a Twilight bit player, had been cast in a lead role opposite George Clooney in Up In The Air, Jason Reitman’s next directorial project. But today the trade have already moved on to a different leading lady—for the same movie. Variety reports that Vera Farmiga will also star opposite Clooney, apparently as a woman who develops a romantic relationship with his character as he travels the country in search of his millionth frequent flyer mile.
I like Farmiga a lot—she’s the best part of the upcoming political thriller Nothing But the Truth-- and I’m all for age-appropriate romances. So while Farmiga is the more likely choice for the romantic lead, I’d been thinking it would be the George and Anna show, giving Kendrick a really and truly big break. Now her role seems more like a supporting one, and while it’s still a big movie with George Clooney, the excitement feels somewhat dimmed. Or am I just being crazy here? After all, going into this weekend Kendrick was just a minor star of a movie produced by this tiny studio, and now she’s part of Twilight, a veritable juggernaut that’s already starting to make its stars famous. A role opposite George Clooney isn’t half bad for this stage of the game—even if she doesn’t get to participate in the kissing scenes. |
