Verbinski Walks The Plank![]()
Avast me maties and land lovers, I spot a sequel off the port bow! Pirates of the Caribbean 3 hasn’t even set sail and the rumors are already flying about Pirates 4. It seems you no longer have to have wait to see if your latest film is a success before you plan your next franchise cash-in. While Johnny Depp would be happy to do a fourth film, given that he has taken on his pirate persona 24/7, director of the past three Pirates films Gore Verbinski has lost his sea legs, according to Jim Hill.
“Gore's sick of pirates. If I wrote a scene that had to be shot on water, he'd run the other way,” said author Berkeley Breathed during a book tour. Breathed is currently working on a film adaptation of his book “Flawed Dogs: The Year End Leftovers at the Piddleton ‘Last Chance’ Dog Pound” with Verbinski. Perhaps Verbinski finally understands all of James Cameron’s gripes about working on water, which can be heard in The Abyss commentary. Unless Capin’ Jack becomes a technology pirate and starts to bootleg his own films, it looks like Verbinski might walk the plank. Would a new director invigorate the series or prepare the franchise’s water grave in the briny deep? Then again, it could be some writer name dropping to get his own worked mentioned. Shiver me timbers! |
