Keira Knightley is in yet another terribly romantic, period movie that requires her to wear a corset. It’s called The Duchess and it’s filled with all the usual poofy dresses and effeminate, fancy men germane to the genre. Normally, period movies like these are what serious Hollywood actresses do to earn credibility, in between more interesting, creative projects. But Keira Knightley seems determined to make this her thing. All the awards buzz she keeps getting for doing them probably isn’t helping matters.

I’m all for taking her craft seriously, but it wouldn’t hurt if she aimed just little more towards Jessica Alba and a little less towards Dame Judy Dench. Plenty of time for movies with powdered wigs when your body has gone to heck and the world no longer wants to see you in a bikini. I’m not saying every movie has to take place underwater opposite Paul Walker, but come on Keira, do something fun once in awhile.
