Video: Doc Brown And The Back To The Future DeLorean Are Selling Electronics In Argentina
Great Scott! Doc Brown and his iconic time-traveling DeLorean are back! No, it’s not for another Back to the Future movie, or a television series, or even a new ride at Universal Studios. Doc Brown has traveled to the year 2011 to…sell electronics in Argentina. These videos, courtesy of Autoblog, show Christopher Lloyd once again donning the familiar HAZMAT suit as the DeLorean bursts out of the darkness and ends up parked inside a storefront. Take a look below.
In the second video, we see security cam footage of the incident from another angle… But the most interesting video is a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of the commercial. We see several takes of the time machine driving down a closed street and into the store. If you listen, you can actually hear a member of the crew whistling Alan Silvestri’s indelible Back to the Future theme as they set up. It seems clear there were a few diehard fans on this shoot. I can understand fans of the classic trilogy having misgivings about these videos. On the one hand, it’s disheartening to see Back to the Future selling out in what seems to be such a desperate fashion. But frankly I find it to be a heart-warming reminder of how much this franchise is beloved all over the world. It also speaks to the staying power of the series that we’re now 21 years removed from the last Back to the Future film and the connection to audiences is still strong enough that marketing firms want to take advantage of it.. Also, is it just me, or does Christopher Lloyd look like he hasn’t aged a day in all those 21 years? To be honest, my biggest concern watching these videos was that one of the original DeLoreans would be wrecked in the process of making this commercial. But Autoblog was quick to put those fears to rest by revealing that the more dynamic long shots were achieved with the use of a disguised Toyota Celica. It was heartbreaking enough to watch the DeLorean shattered into oblivion on the train tracks at the end of Back to the Future III so I’m glad we won’t lose another in the name of Garbarino Electronics. |
