Vince Vaughn's Stand-Up Takes On Hannah Montana's Singing

By Scott Gwin: 2008-02-07 23:07:22
Vince Vaughn's Stand-Up Takes On Hannah Montana's Singing Can anything kick Hannah Montana out of the number one spot? The filmed concert has been dominating the box office since it's record breaking opening last weekend. While "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour" was originally only intended for a limited one week release, but when something makes this much cash this fast it only makes sense that its distributor, Disney, would extend the haul.

Three new releases will step up to challenge the teen-sensation concert experience. The best bet, but still a long shot to topple, is the re-pairing of Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, Fool's Gold [Read The CB Review]. The comedy looks silly and critics seem to agree that it's silly. There's nothing wrong with silly, but silly isn't going to take number one. Number two is the best it can really expect.

The silly comedy doesn't stop there. Martin Lawrence unleashes his latest attempt at the funnies with Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins! [Read The CB Preview]. It doesn't promise to be much more hilarious and, despite the long list of big names co-starring in the movie, it's still a Martin Lawrence headline piece. Honestly, I don't think America's ready to forgive him for pushing Big Momma on us.

Your third new option falls under the same category as Hannah. It's not so much a movie as reality television at the movies. Despite that, "Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show" [Read The CB Review] may just be the funniest thing in theaters this weekend. Last weekend I would have guessed that something in limited release wouldn't be able to make it very high at the box office, but Hannah Montana shot that theory to pieces. Opening in fewer than 1000 theaters, Vaughn may still do well. But with an "R" rating and the fact that people aren't scalping "Wild West" tickets for four hundred bucks, Vaughn isn't likely to do quite so well.
