Viral Marketing For The Crazies Has Begun![]()
Breck Eisner's remake of George A Romero's The Crazies is further proof that Hollywood has completely run out of ways to scare us. If they aren't importing our scares (The Ring, The Grudge, Let The Right One In), they bring back movies that scared the last generation and give them a modern spin (hence all the cell phones with no signal). But just in case you thought this unnecessary film was going to pass by without making a lot of noise, you can guess again: it's viral marketing time!
First found by MovieViral, the film already has two websites and a Twitter account set up for the film, centering around a chemical company dumping in a place called Ogden Marsh. The first is a company website for Dakon/Pendrill Chemicals, which has three locations, but the only one we care about is the one in Ogden Marsh, Iowa - the town where the film takes place. Not much is clickable yet, but expect something to happen with the employee login. The second site is a blogger account called Save Ogden Marsh, which is pretty self explanatory. The blog also has a Twitter attached at @saveogdenmarsh. Kimberly Jonson, the blogger behind the site, is not yet a listed character on the film's IMDb page. When talking about a film people are actually anticipating (Read: Cloverfield, The Dark Knight) viral marketing can be tremendously effective by keeping audiences involved while waiting for the release date. This film doesn't exactly have that same type of buzz working for it. If you're anything like me, then this can be all but ignored while you keep clicking on Stark Industries Now and wait for something to happen. |
