Von Donnersmarck Back On As Director Of The Tourist image
First German director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck was going to follow up his Oscar-winning The Lives of Others with a gig directing the action movie The Tourist. Then Tom Cruise dropped out of the lead role, then Sam Worthington dropped out as his replacement, then Charlize Theron dropped out, then von Donnersmarck dropped out, then Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp signed on as the final cast, and now, apparently, von Donnersmarck is back on board.

Confused yet? Those of us who have been following the merry-go-round of casting on this movie are probably relieved to read the news in Entertainment Weekly, given that von Donnersmarck probably won't drop out of the project again... right? In the film Jolie plays an Interpol agent who lures innocent American tourist Depp into her web of intrigue. Production will apparently get started in the spring, perhaps to give von Donnersmarck less time to change his mind.
