I know it's the holidays and film related news stories are running about as fast as the sap in the trees, but you can always count on someone to cook up something extra juicy and completely unbelievable to pass the time.
I love a good rumor. I'm not sure this one qualifies but sci-fi fan site SciFi Heaven has reportedly heard a little bird which tweeted the names Tom Hanks and Star Trek in the same tune.
How on earth would one link Tom Hanks to Star Trek? It's a simple matter of connect the dots. Paramount's ailing franchise is trying to has out plans for a new movie, one that will hopefully breathe some life back into the Trek galaxy. Erik Jendresen has submitted a script for this new project and that storyline is purportedly still under consideration by Paramount Execs. Jendresen also worked on the writing for HBO's "Band of Brothers" with, you guessed it, Tom Hanks. Taa-daa! Tom Hanks in the next Star Trek film.
While just about anything is possible, this rates somewhere below the existence of the tooth fairy on my "I buy that" list (I never got a dime for a single tooth under my pillow). Hank's current list of upcoming projects looks to keep him pretty busy well into 2008 leaving little room for any journeys where no one has gone before. But as long as we're at it, why not go a step further? An even wackier rumor would be that Paramount is dumping Jendresen's film for a new script about a lonely Star Fleet officer on a remote Deep Space station who begins correspondence with a shop girl back on Earth. The movie would also star Meg Ryan and would be titled: Sleepless in Space: You've Got A Subspace Message.

Please tell me you're kidding. I don't care what book you wrote, you do not OWN the words "Wacky Woody". The title is in reference to Tom Hanks' character in Toy Story.
