Walden Media, fresh off their success with Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is ready to embrace another series of fantastical stories.

The company has recently scored the rights to Isabel Allende’s trilogy, starting with the first book City of the Beasts. Barrie Osborne (Lord of the Rings) is producing, and David Rothenberg is co-producing and adapting the HarperCollins novels.

"Walden Media's commitment to collaborate with world-class authors and great children's literature continues with our partnership with Isabel Allende," said Walden Media executive vice president of production Alex Schwartz. City of the Beasts is about a young 15-year-old adventurer named Alexander Cold and his comrade 12-year Nadia Santos. While spending the summer with his grandmother who was hired to write an article on the “Yeti of the Amazon”, the two teens get kidnapped, and discover the mythical city of El Dorado and encounter the curious “Beasts”.

Basically, it’s another story about kids who wander into a fantasy world that is drastically different than the one they know. Not to mention far more exciting, albeit dangeous. The formula works, and Walden Media can spot a cash cow with effortless ease. Expect lots of CGI animals and let’s hope nobody gets publicly lynched in this one.
