So maybe they'd planned to use a Carey Mulligan Oscar win to bump the box office of Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, and when that didn't pan out they scrapped it? Whatever the cause, THR is reporting that Fox has pushed Oliver Stone's sequel to his 1987 film from an April 23 release date to September 24.

Given that the marketing campaign for the film has been virtually nonexistent, aside from a glossy Vanity Fair photo shoot, we probably should have seen this coming. The April 23 date was actually pretty clear for a movie like Wall Street, with just the rom-com The Back-Up Plan and the action comics adaptation The Losers up against it, but it and all its competition would have been annihilated just a week later by Iron Man 2. September, on the other hand, is traditionally more open, both for potential blockbusters and Oscar hopefuls. Are they positioning Michael Douglas for yet another Oscar run as Gordon Gekko? Or is this a September dump-off? Given how little they've shown us of the film so far, it's impossible to tell.
