Warner Bros. Goes For Nubs The Miracle Dog![]()
Marley & Me scarred me for life. I’m a longtime dog owner and lover and just couldn’t handle the sob-inducing ending. Since, I’ve sworn off all dog movies that could be even remotely sad. Sorry Warner Bros., there will be no Nubs for me.
While on a tour of duty in Iraq, Maj. Brian Dennis came across a stray dog he named Nubs. When Nubs was just a puppy, his ears were severed by an Iraqi solider making them look more like nubs than the traditional ears of similar mutts. Some time later, Dennis was reassigned to another base roughly 70 miles away and was forced to say goodbye to Nubs. While at his new base, Dennis got the visitor of a lifetime: Nubs. Thanks to the extenuating circumstances, Dennis was allowed to keep Nubs, who eventually came to the United States to live with Dennis permanently. According to THR, Warner Bros. nabbed Dennis’ life rights and acquired the children’s book he co-wrote with Mary Nethery and Kirby Larson. Nubs: The True Story of a Marine, a Mutt and a Miracle, was published two weeks ago and currently holds the No. 4 spot on the New York Times children’s best-seller list. Thanks to the early establishment of a relationship with Dennis while he was still in Iraq, The Bucket List co-writer Justin Zackham was hired to write the screenplay and produce. It seems as though Nubs the movie will be tame enough for fans of the book because despite an Iraq War backdrop, it won’t have any combat scenes. I guess that means it’ll be tame enough for a dog lover with a soft heart. Maybe I will give Nubs a chance. |
