Warner Bros. Sets Sherlock Holmes Sequel For December 2011![]()
Even with Avatar completely redefining box office hit, Warner Bros. had a big holiday hit with Sherlock Holmes, and they know as well as anyone not to mess with a good thing. According to THR the studio has set a December 16, 2011 release date for the sequel, making it the feather in the cap for a studio that also has the final Harry Potter film coming next year.
WB chairman and CEO Barry Meyer announced a whole handful of other 2011 release dates, most of them unsurprising: The Hangover 2 is coming May 26, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 on July 15, and New Year's Eve, Garry Marshall's bloated sequel to the bloated Valentine's Day, on December 9. He also said that the rebooted Superman shepherded by Christopher Nolan will be coming in the holiday season of 2012, just a few months after the scheduled July 20, 2012 release for the third Batman film. And while we're talking about superheroes, Meyer said the studio was "nearing" a go-ahead for a film based on the Flash, yet another DC Comics figure the studio plans to build a franchise around. I'll wait for our resident comics expert Eric Eisenberg to weigh on whether or not the Flash is worth your time. |
