Warner Bros. Staying In The Steve Carell Business![]()
Apparently Steve Carell can't leave the house without being offered a new movie project. Just yesterday we heard that he and Date Night co-star Tina Fey will likely reteam for the comedy Mail Order Groom, and now Warner Bros. has paid a tidy $2 million for a spec script written specifically for Carell.
The news comes from Variety, the site with the impossible to navigate paywall, but here's what I can gather: Carell will play a father dealing with a marital crisis and trying to build a relationship with his children, all with a tone that's somehow similar to Love Actually. The film is a likely candidate for Carell's next project during hiatus from The Office next summer, with the Mail Order Groom also in there somewhere. Interestingly, this spec script means that Warner Bros. is postponing Get Smart 2 for the second year in a row, making it all the less likely that the movie will get made at all. It feels like 100 years since the original came out (it was actually 2008), and while it was a hit with $130 million, there doesn't have to be a sequel. Wary as I am of Carell becoming overused, the more original content that comes his way, the better. |
