Watch Channing Tatum Parody Jean-Claude Van Damme's Volvo Ad On The 22 Jump Street Set
Let the parodies begin! A week ago, Volvo blew our minds by releasing an ad that put actor and martial artist Jean-Claude Van Damme between two trucks to demonstrate the precision and directional stability of Volvo Dynamic Steering, and also Van Damme’s ability to turn his body into two right angles. The desired effect was achieved, as the video has logged more than 36 million views in the span of about seven days. So it’s no surprise that we’d see some parodies pop up. That includes the one above, which comes to us courtesy of Channing Tatum, star of 22 Jump Street, as he attempts to perform a similar stunt and fails.
For reference, here’s the Volvo video:
Tatum’s video begins similarly, with a close-up of his face as he speaks dramatically from his character Jenko's perspective about how surviving high school was no easy task. "My body is engineered to defy the laws of physics and the mindset to master the most epic of splits," he says. Which I’m pretty sure translates to:
"Fuck you science!"
Of course, as the star of such films as 21 Jump Street, White House Down, Step Up and Magic Mike, Tatum’s no stranger to stunt work and showing off his physical prowess…
But it seems the stability and precision of the food carts on the set of 22 Jump Street don’t quite measure up to the standards set by Volvo trucks, as things go horribly wrong for Mr. Tatum at the end of the video, and last we see him, he’s laying on the ground screaming and swearing. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying we’re all hoping he pulls through this ordeal. In the meantime, we’re looking forward to the 21 Jump Street sequel, which will bring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill back together on screen for more undercover shenanigans. The film releases into theaters June 13, 2014.
