Watch Christopher Nolan And David Fincher Sing The Praises Of Tree Of Life
Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life is doing OK for itself in limited release, having made $13 million worldwide since its release 3 weeks ago, but an art house movie this expensive needs to do better than OK to break even. Lucky for Fox Searchlght, Terrence Malick has some pretty high profile admirers who are willing to lend a hand. In a new featurette that Searchlight posted at Apple (you can also watch it embedded below), Christopher Nolan and David Fincher-- from undisclosed locations on the sets of their respective upcoming movies maybe?-- sing the praises of Malick, their testimonials intercut with footage from Tree of Life that's, of course, gorgeous.
It's actually great to hear fellow filmmakers talk about what they get out of Malick's work, especially after Tree of Life has been so thoroughly discussed by critics for weeks now, and I love the notion that Nolan says Malick's influence can be "clearly seen" in his work, because it's a little hard to connect Batman punching the Joker with long meditations on nature and grace. Anyway, check out the video below, and if you've been waiting for Nolan and Fincher's endorsement to check out The Tree of Life-- well, I'm not sure why you'd do that, but now you have a good reason to check out one of the year's most fascinating movies. |
