With all the hype over Spider-Man 3, Shrek the Third, Pirates 3, Harry Potter 5, and all the other big budget movies with numbers after their names opening this summer, it might be easy to forget that the greatness of Pixar is releasing another assured masterpiece this summer. Well here’s a reminder.
Disney, in a brilliant move, has released a full 10 minutes of footage from Pixar’s next pic Ratatouille on their official site here. Go watch. And then stick around after it’s over because it’s followed by a series of behind the scenes videos about the making of the film which, if you’re a Pixar or Brad Bird fan, you need to watch.
As for the footage, it looks great. Ratatouille has a strange, dreamlike quality that we haven’t seen in any of Pixar’s other movies. The Incredibles was Pixar’s first real experimentation with different styles, so perhaps it’s no surprise that this one is a little outside the Pixar norm as well since both movies are directed by Brad Bird. I’m not quite sure what to think of Ratatouille’s strange, ghostly imaginary friend. As long as it’s just a momentary gag and not some recurring character in the film it should be fine.
