Zack Snyder is sharing a little of the method behind his madness. The 300 director has updated the production blog for Watchmen, sharing some of the storyboards he’s created to help map out the visuals for the upcoming graphic novel adaptation. Snyder says that, aside from the graphic novel itself, these are his biggest tools in making the movie.
It’s interesting to read what Snyder has to say about storyboarding. Apparently the director used to have an artist clean up his sketches to make them more polished – a step Snyder has foregone more recently to ensure nothing is lost in someone else’s clean up of his work.
I’ve never been a huge fan of storyboards as an extra on DVD, mainly because once you have the finished project the storyboards are less impressive. All you can really compare is how the final product came out based on the original plan. Here we already have the original plan (the graphic novel) but not the final product, so it’s kind of neat to see how Snyder is planning on bringing those comic panels alive.
