Watch The X-Men: Days Of Future Past Clip From The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Credits

While including post-credits sequences in comic book movies has become pretty standard practice at this point in the genre, the way that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 goes about it is far different than anything we've seen. In addition to featuring graphics that point towards the identities of the villains we may end up seeing brought to life in the upcoming Sinister Six spin-off film, the credits also included a quick clip from the competing summer blockbuster X-Men: Days of Future Past, which will be out in a few weeks. It's definitely a strange situation, but just in case you didn't see the Spidey sequel in theaters this past weekend, the X-Men clip has now arrived online.

Brought to us by IGN, this clip seems to begin at a U.S. Army base in Vietnam where enlisted soldiers like Havok (Lucas Till), Toad (Evan Jonigkeit), Ink and a fourth mutant are getting ready to finish their tour and head home. Unfortunately, this is interrupted by the young William Styker (Josh Helman), who wants to drug up the mutants and experiment on them - a la what he does in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Styker's plans are interrupted, however, by an in-disguise Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), who proceeds to kick some serious ass.

Weirdly enough, this isn't the first clip we've seen from X-Men: Days of Future Past that features a confrontation between Mystique and Stryker. Just last week she was featured in yet another sequence where the female mutant whupped the soldier and everyone else in the room with him:

If you're curious as to why an X-Men clip would be showing up in the end of a Spider-Man movie, there's actually a very simple explanation. As we learned last month, director Marc Webb signed a one-picture deal with Fox Searchlight after making (500) Days of Summer, but was forced to go back on that contract once he signed on to the Amazing Spider-Man franchise. In order to make things even, Sony and Fox made a deal that said Sony would use The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to include some free advertising for X-Men: Days of Future Past - the clip you see above. So if you were hoping that this was a sign that Spider-Man and the X-Men were getting ready to team up on screen, I'm sorry to disappoint you. At the very least we do always have this deleted scene from the first X-Men movie:

X-Men: Days of Future Past will be in theaters on May 23rd.
