Zack Snyder’s adaptation of Watchmen is definitely one of the most anticipated films coming up, which means the rumormill is working overtime on the movie. Finally we’ve gotten some solid casting news, although it’s not an announcement of any person getting a role. Instead it’s an announcement of what the production is looking for.
Apparently Snyder is planning on keeping the story set in its native time period, so he’s now looking for people to play all the celebrities that were drawn in the comic books. According to the L.A. Daily News, look-alikes are being sought for the following historical figures: Richard Nixon, Henry Kissinger, H.R. Haldeman, Ted Koppel, John McLaughlin, Annie Liebovitz, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Fidel Castro, Albert Einstein, Norman Rockwell, J.F.K., Jackie Kennedy, Andy Warhol, Mao Zedong, and Larry King (list via SciFi Wire because L.A. News requires subscription). I’m a little intrigued to see Larry King on that list. I just assumed they’d get Larry himself.
Of course, that doesn’t shed any light on the players for the primary parts. Those are still shrouded in mystery and heavily rumored. In case you’re not up to date on the rumors, dtheatre.com has put together a comprehensive list of the main names floating out there. I have to admit, some of these are new to me as well, so remember this is just a rumored list with nothing confirmed.
