Naomi Watts has signed up to work for History of Violence director David Cronenberg on his next project. The movie is called Eastern Promises, and they’ll start shooting in November once Naomi finishes work on her current production, Funny Games.

Variety says the film is written by Steve Knight, and explores the seedy side of London. Steve wrote Dirty Pretty Things, another movie about London’s underside. Knight knows British gangsters.

Naomi Watts will tweak her natural Aussie accent into a British one to play a London midwife named Anna in the film. While trying to discover the identity of a dead patient, Anna gets dragged into the criminal underworld. Also involved is Cronenberg familiar Viggo Mortensen, playing a ruthless criminal Nikolai, part of one of London’s organized crime families.
