Weekend Box Office

discussioncomments published: 2004-05-23 00:00:00 Author: Bill Beyrer

Whoa. Who would’ve thought? The Green ogre and his pals put a huge dent in the box office take this weekend. Every year this century at least one opening weekend has broken records or turned a few heads. If you were to look at the Top 20 opening weekend grosses of all time, only 2 of them are from the 90's (Lost World: Jurassic Park and Star Wars - Episode I: The Phantom Menace). Shrek 2 has wedged itself in between 2002’s Spider-Man and 2003's Matrix Reloaded. Behind Reloaded...both Harry Potter flicks.

If this is any indication of what we may have in store the rest of the year, watch out! We got a third Harry Potter and Spidey’s back for a second spin. Strap in folks, we’re only three weeks into the roller coaster ride that is the summer movie season. And on a side note, the indie documentary Super Size Me seems to have snuck it’s way through the back door of this weekend’s top 10. Which again proves the unpredictability of enigmatic season.
