Weekend Box Office: Alice Still The Cash Queen
Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland rode high for a third weekend, taking in another $34 million and bringing its total box office to $265 million. That performance comes against three new comers, two of which were packed with major names that underperformed.
Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler didn't generate at lot of heat with The Bounty Hunter, banking only $21 million. Meanwhile Jude Law and Forest Whitaker slumped in at a distant fourth place with only $6 million for Repo Men. Apparently in the midst of a massive national debate about health care isn't the best time to release a movie about men who rip artificial organs from the bodies of people who don't pay their bills.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid fared only a little better, snagging a close second place spot with $21.8 million. Not bad for a movie directed by the guy who made Hotel For Dogs on a budget of only $15 million.
Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning got a very luke warm reception. The Runaways banked only $803,000 in just over 240 theaters. Meanwhile Ben Stiller's adventure into the realms of indie dramatic comedy got more serious attention, earning over $100,000 on just 3 screens.
