Weekend Box Office - America Still Hungover![]() Despite an apparent $1 million lead in last weekend's estimates Up ended up playing second fiddle to The Hangover by $800,000 when the final numbers rolled in. There was no question who the top cash earner was this week. The surprise is who it wasn't. The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, a movie with the kind of star power you'd expect to draw in the crowds, ended up with an estimated $25 million opening weekend, a number that seems high given the trend this summer for films to slip a little each day as the debut weekend progresses. Either way, that total wasn't anywhere near close enough to beat Hangover and Up which banked $33.4 million and $30.5 million respectively. Both of those films managed an impressive less than 30% drop from the previous weekend. At this rate Up is definitely poised to take over as the biggest grossing film of the year to date from Star Trek, if it can manage to do so before Transformers 2 beats it to the punch. This weekend's other new entry, Eddie Murphy's Imagine That, had a dismal opening at only $5.7 million. That's little better than his last movie, Meet Dave, which opened at $5.2 million and went on to end up almost $10 million shy of making back its $60 million budget. Imagine That came in at a price tag of only $55 million but that still leaves Murphy with a long way to go before he can imagine any hope for turning a profit.
