I might as well just copy what I wrote for the weekend box office last week because nothing significant changed this weekend around. With an expanded release, Borat remains comfortably at the number one spot (America, you do realize this is a movie about a British guy making a total ass out of you, right?) while last weeks numbers two and three, The Santa Clause 3 and Flushed Away remained solidly in their places from last week as well.
The only new release to make any headway this weekend was Stranger Than Fiction which only managed fourth place with $14 million. The abysmal The Return slunk in at eighth with $4.7 million. Apparently nobody wanted to see Ridley Scott make a warm dramedy and they definitely didn't buy into the softer side of Russell Crowe. A Good Year barely snagged the tenth place spot with $3.8 million.
Star studded Babel got a wide release expansion and jumped into the top ten at number six. Despite that rapid jump it's likely just a flash in the pan. Expect it to all but disappear next weekend.
With one Brit ruling the top ten for the last two weeks we go to another likely British man on top...literally. James Bond makes his return next weekend in the unlikely but increasingly popular form of Daniel Craig in Casino Royale. He'll have his work cut out for him, though. Penguins strike yet again, this time in CG animation in the much touted and anticipated Happy Feet. Who will win is anybody's guess. And it doesn't matter to me, so long as someone kicks Borat out of the top spot.
