Weekend Box Office: Megamind Wins A Megaweekend![]()
The holiday season is revving up, and a computer animated feature is leading the way. The $47 million Megamind banked this weekend to claim the number one spot is by no means a record, but when you roll in the other new movies debuting it adds up to one of biggest season kick-offs on the books.
New movies snagged the number two and three spots. Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis' new comedy Due Date rolled in at second place with $33 million against its mid-range $65 million budget. Tyler Perry's adaptation For Colored Girls almost recovered its $21 million budget. At $20 million it took an easy third place. The numbers were high for the first weekend in November, but are only a taste of what's to come. With new Harry Potter and Chronicles of Narnia entries on the way as well as a the new Tron sequel, the holidays could be a very happy time at the box office. It would be a welcome sign to studios who have seen the number of ticket sales in decline this year and growth from last year down to only 3% year to date.
