Weekend Box Office - Night At The Museum

By Scott Gwin: 2007-01-07 00:00:00

With no worthy competition to knock it out of the way, Night at the Museum lurked in the top spot yet again this weekend. Enjoying its third week at number one, it's been raking in enough sales to push it up the ranks of domestic film cash cows and will likely become one of ony six movies released last year to break the $200 million mark. (it would join Superman Returns, The DaVinci Code, X-Men:The Last Stand, Cars and, of course, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest).

The Pursuit of Happyness has paid off, holding tight to the number two spot for the third week in a row. Children of Men opened wide this weekend bringing in $10 million while other new releases Freedom Writers and Happily N'Ever After came in fourth and sixth respectively. Code Name: The Cleaner did anything but clean house, coming in at number eleven.

Although Night at the Museum's stamina is wearing thin, it still has little to fear from next weekend's competition. Yet another "kids inspired by music and dance" flick, Stomp The Yard, will head into theaters with horror-flick Primeval nipping at its heels. The only release with any hope is Alpha Dog, and that only because Justin Timberlake fans just might blindly toss their cash at the movie since he stars in it.
