Weekend Box Office - Pursuit of Happyness
Will Smith's Opus-pater took top honors this weekend, beating out CG creatures of fiction and fantasy. The Pursuit of Happyness walked away with $27 million while the watered down love child of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, Eragon, came in a close second with $23.5 million. Meanwhile, the more deserving movie to open, Charlotte's Web, earned a distand third only drawing in $12 million. In smaller release, Dreamgirls, starring Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy and Beyonce Knowles, absolutely demolished the box office bringing in an extremely rare $120,000 per theater. Meanwhile, Steve Soderbergh's newest film The Good German opened to $15,000 per theater on five screens. Next weekend has a spate of new films rolling out, once again covering all the bases from drama to silly comedy. Sylvester Stallone resurrects his boxing alter ego yet again for Rocky Balboa (that's Rocky VI for those keeping count). Ben Stiller steps back from comedy about family and takes a stab at family comedy in Night at the Museum. Sports drama We Are Marshall and CIA early years drama The Good Shepherd round out the list. With schools getting out this week look for Night at the Museum to come out on top.
