Weekend Box Office: Tanking Tangled Takes Over Number One
The holiday season is in full swing, but there was not much at the box office this weekend worth celebrating. Last week's top two twirled through a position swap while the only new release barely eeked out a place in the top ten.
The Warrior's Way hasn't seen a lot of marketing over the last few months and only opened in 1,600+ theaters, prompting audiences to generally pass it over at ticket buying time. The $42 million flick from Relativity Media (the company that runs Rogue Pictures and is now producing movies under its own title) banked a meager $3 million, suggesting that the red used to pave the way of the warrior may be more financial bleeding than anything else.
Meanwhile the first part of the seventh part of the Harry Potter franchise gave ground to Disney's tweaked fairy tale. Deathly Hallows Part One slipped further than Tangled did, giving the animated adventure a chance at seeing what number one feels like. Hopefully it's worth the blood bath the movie is taking at the box office.
Numbers released this week put Tangled's price tag at a whopping $260 million. To date it has banked less that $150 million world-wide, meaning Disney's animation department is in for a not so Merry Christmas.
