Weekend Box Office: Ted and Magic Mike Top Summer Weekend for Adults image
If raunch-coms are your thing you were living the dream this weekend. After several weeks of kid friendly animated adventures and comic book heroes leading the way, pervy teddy bears and chorus of male strippers dominated the box office, snagging the top two spots and almost $100 million between them.

Ted, writer, director and voice-star Seth MacFarlane's first foray into live action feature films, landed squarely at number one with $54 million. That was enough cash to get into the top ten all-time largest openings for a rated-R film. It came in at eighth place on that chart, and third place among highest openings for rated-R comedies.

Steven Soderbergh's latest offering Magic Mike wasn't the first time actors like Channing Tatum and Matthew MacConaughey have had an excuse to take off their shirts in front of the camera but that fact probably didn't hurt the movie's financial outlook. Put together on a meager $7 million budget, it banked over $39 million, putting it in contention to be the director's biggest opening ever. This weekend's estimate is just $1,600 higher than Ocean's Twelve debut weekend.

The almost painfully prolific Tyler Perry released yet another Madea movie. Madea's Witness Protection came in fourth place with $26 million, average for a Perry production.

Better known as a writer on flashy action pics like Mission: Impossible III and two Transformers movies, Alex Kurtzman ventured into two new territories: feel good drama and the director's chair. His debut, People Like Us tanked hard, barely making it to tenth place with just $4 million.
