Wes Anderson Has A Best Friend![]()
Wes Anderson has been known so far for writing his own scripts, most of them dealing with young men with daddy issues and usually a Wilson sibling or two. But he delved into adaptations with his upcoming The Fantastic Mr. Fox (originally a Roald Dahl novel), and now he's set to do a straight-up remake, of the 2006 French hit My Best Friend.
The movie actually sounds as delightfully non-Wes Anderson as it gets, while still sounding within his league. In the original French film, a man learns that none of his friends actually like him, and he is challenged to prove that he has a best friend. He instead gets a cab driver to pose as his friend, and, well, hijinks ensue. Variety says Anderson is making the movie for Universal and Imagine Entertainment, which has Anderson teaming up with super-producer Brian Grazer. Anderson is actually only writing the screenplay at the moment, but Variety admits he's considering directing it-- and really, why wouldn't he? It's a chance for him to stretch, and silence the critics who came out in full force with Darjeeling Limited, accusing him of having a limited bag of tricks. Wes Anderson has the opportunity in his lap to take himself to the next level, and we'll all benefit if he takes it. |
