Even though Joss Whedon has promised that his take on the horror genre, Cabin in the Woods, will be unlike anything we've seen before, the whole thing is seeming pretty generic thus far. He's now even taken the typical step of casting a bunch of unknowns to be terrorized at the titular cabin-- but at least, in typical Whedon style, he's making a funny joke about it. Telling MTV Movies about how excited he was to have them all join the cast, he said, "These are people you care about, able to go toe-to-toe with the amazing actors we’ve corralled thus far, and not unpretty in the bargain. I can’t wait to harm them.”
The list includes some faces that are probably familiar, including Jesse Williams from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 (he was the hot art model) and Kristen Connolly from Revolutionary Road (she was a member of that poor couple who moves into the Wheeler's house in the end). But yeah, essentially they're cannon fodder, as every young face cast in a horror movie has been since time immemorial. Still no telling what Whedon is doing that's so revolutionary, but if he keeps being so charming and self-effacing while he does it, we'll enjoy it regardless.
