Whitaker Is A Watchman![]()
Oscar winner Forest Whitaker has just landed a role in The Night Watchman, not to be confused with Watchmen, Zach Snyder’s upcoming adaptation of the classic comic of the same name. If there’s one thing I don’t want to see, it’s Forest Whitaker sweating his way through a pair of tights.
The Night Watchmen is an original script based on an idea by the great James Ellroy. At any given moment Hollywood has at least five movies based on Ellroy ideas in production. At this point, it’s safe to assume that Ellroy has Michael Crichton money, and if he wanted, could probably actually afford to clone his own dinosaur. This particular Ellroy adaptation is about a disgraced, alcoholic cop who sets out to redeem himself by solving a corruption case. Keanu Reeves is already signed to play the cop, an LAPD veteran. Whitaker will play his longtime mentor and Reeves’ nemesis, a man implicated in the execution of a fellow officer. Whitaker, who once looked a lot like a lazy-eyed Klingon in Battlefield Earth, will make The Night Watchmen his first post-oscar movie according to The Hollywood Reporter. Whitaker has proven he has a flair for playing complex bad guys and the film’s director David Ayers knows a thing or two about shooting them. He wrote the acclaimed cop versus cop movie Training Day. |
