Will Ferrell's a guy with a lot of options in front of him-- his name on a comedy can pretty much guarantee a greenlight, and he's usually developing as many projects as he's actually working on at any given time. So you can't blame him when he has to start letting go of commitments. He and director David Dobkin have stepped away from Neighborhood, a comedy in which Ferrell would have played a guy who discovers a giant conspiracy while serving on his suburb's Neighborhood Watch.
Variety writes that Dobkin had recently submitted changes to Jared Stern's original script, so maybe the studio wasn't happy with what he presented. Regardless, the concept sounds generic enough that plenty of actors could step in Ferrell's place, and Ferrell probably has 100 other projects dying for his name. Everyone wins!
