Will Smith's Kids Are Movie Stars Too![]()
When your dad is one of the biggest movie stars in the world, it takes some serious guts to go into acting yourself. But Jaden Smith got good reviews for his performance alongside his dad in Pursuit of Happyness, and Willow Smith was cute as a button in I Am Legend-- until she got blown up in a helicopter crash, at least. Now the two siblings are venturing off on their own, without dad, in an adaptation of the graphic novel series Amulet.
Well, it’s not exactly a series yet. Variety reports that only one book of the five-book series has been published so far. Yeah, haven’t you heard? The new thing is basing movies on books that no one has even read yet. I mean, when you have Will Smith’s progeny, can it really be a bad idea? Jaden and Willow will play siblings, naturally, who moved into their great-grandfather’s creepy house and must rescue their widowed mother from a creepy beast using—you guessed it!—an amulet. The plot sounds remarkably similar to that of The Spiderwick Chronicles, and if that movie’s success is any indication, this one is bound for glory as well. Daddy Smith won’t be entirely absent—he’s along as a producer, along with Akiva Goldsman and James Lassiter. I mean, I’d be worried if Will Smith were just handing over his children to some strangers, so this seems like a pretty good plan. And I think the Smith children are genuinely talented, though that might be a bias thanks to my well-documented love of Will Smith. Whatever, the kids are talented! Let ‘em star in whatever graphic novel they choose! OK, as long as it’s not Sin City. |
