While I still prefer to believe that Spider-Man 4 will never actually come to exist, apparently Sony Pictures is already trying to pimp the movie out before it’s even been greenlit. Slashfilm picked up on an eBay auction in which the lucky bidder can win a walk-on role in Spider-Man 4, which includes a meet-and-greet with the cast and a trip to the New York premiere as well.

There’s a lot of fine print in there about how Sony Pictures will determine the nature of the visit, and the ultimate disclaimer: “If experience cannot be fulfilled, Sony Pictures will provide alternative set visits/premieres based on the provider’s availability.” Yeah, so at least they’re building in an escape clause provided not a single person wants to return for this movie. The auction’s proceeds will benefit Stand Up For Cancer, so it’s a good cause and all, but something seems a little dirty out of promoting a movie that doesn’t exist yet, and many people hope will never exist. Bidding is already up to $5,100, so if you disagree with me entirely and really really love Spider-Man, get bidding! The auction ends Sept. 5.
