Wolverine Gets Rewritten![]()
The future of the X-Men movie franchise currently lies in Wolverine’s hands, which is scheduled to begin filming soon. So it’s a little disconcerting to hear that the script is still being tweaked. With just over a month before cameras roll, you’d think they’d want to have a solid script laid down already in order to ensure the franchise’s future is being built on a good foundation. Apparently that foundation isn’t quite solid enough yet.
IGN is reporting that writer Skip Woods has been brought in for revision work on the current Wolverine script (by David Benioff). Just how much are they going to revise so close to production beginning? We’re not sure, but the word is this is more than just spit and polish. Woods has written for Hugh Jackman before, in Swordfish and has apparently been selected because of Fox’s response to Woods’ Hitman adaptation. While we’re talking Wolverine, Super Hero Hype got a chance to chat with director Gavin Hood and ask why such a prestigious director would tackle a lone-man superhero spin off. The director gives a great answer about Wolverine’s emotional complexity that shows he really understands the character, so it’s possible Hood may have a better connection with his movie than even Singer had with his two. When a director understands the story he’s telling, but doesn’t feel the need to revere it, that’s when some of the best stories can be told. Hood also reveals the production is not exploring Logan’s early days in Japan, although that might be set aside for Wolverine 2. So, it looks like plans are already being worked for the future of the Wolverine story, even if more X-Men movies aren’t looking promising. Head over to Super Hero Hype to read Hood’s full answers. |
