Woody Harrelson To Play Haymitch Abernathy In The Hunger Games![]()
A few weeks back New York Magazine reported that John C. Reilly was the man that would be playing Haymitch Abernathy, the drunken mentor and former champion, in the adaptation of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games... until it was proven that it was only a rumor. Then New York Magazine published a story saying that Woody Harrelson had been offered the role of Seneca Crane, the Head Gamemaker...until Wes Bentley took that part last week. Turns out that they should have combined the stories.
According to THR, Harrelson has landed the coveted role of Haymitch Abernathy in The Hunger Games, which is set to be directed by Gary Ross. As mentioned earlier, Haymitch is an alcoholic who won the Hunger Games 24 years before the start of the book. His major role in the books is as the mentor for heroes Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). Other members of the cast include Elizabeth Banks, Liam Hemsworth and Stanley Tucci. The film is set to be released on March 23, 2012. So what do you think, Hunger Games fans? It's certainly a different choice than John C. Reilly, but is it more in line with what's in the books? Sound off in the comments section below. |
