Wreck-It Ralph Teaser Poster Is Pixellated And Yelling
We're all pumped about the upcoming Pixar movie Brave right now, both because it's coming soon with a June 22 release date and because I spent some time recently talking to the people behind it and seeing up close all the reasons it might be great. But Disney has another animated film coming this year that ought to be just as intriguing. Wreck-It Ralph, inspired by classic arcade video games and featuring the voices of John C. Reilly, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch, comes to theaters on November 2nd, and for our first look at the film MSN has revealed the teaser poster, which will look very familiar if you spent a lot of time with your nose pressed up against video games in the 80s and early 90s.
Based on the plot description also at MSN, I'm guessing that pixellated guy is Ralph, the video game villain charged with destroying buildings in a game styled after Rampage. Ralph gets sick of being the bad guy all the time, especially with Fix-It Felix taking all the glory, so Ralph breaks out into other arcade games to try and prove his heroic mettle. It sounds in some ways like the classic Disney formula-- character sets out in the world to discover something about himself-- but the video game twist ought to offer a lot of opportunities for both in-jokes and more straightforward visual humor. If I know anything about Disney, and especially their recent run of really stellar animated films that rival Pixar's, they're not just making a movie for the sake of throwing in a lot of video game in-jokes.
Wreck-It Ralph kicks off November in a weekend opposite The Guilt Trip with Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand and the long-delayed remake of Red Dawn, which ought to make it a pretty easy choice for families. But even if you don't have kids, will you be interested in seeing this? A teaser poster both this simple and inventive definitely has my attention.
