Writer Hired To Pen The Robocop Reboot
A Robocop reboot has been rumored for years now, but nothing has ever really come of them. Now, however, it appears that MGM really means business. Just last week the studio hired Elite Squad director Jose Padiha to direct the project and now they've found someone to write it.
Deadline reports that Josh Zetumer has been hired to write the script for the return of everyone's favorite cyborg cop. While the writer doesn't have any completed projects to his name, he isn't lacking in experience. His first script, Infiltrator, made the Black List (the list of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood) and is currently set up at Warner Bros. ; he wrote multiple drafts of the Dune remake when Peter Berg was still attached to direct; and even wrote a script for another Jason Bourne sequel before the project was halted. Zetumer will work with Padiha closely while developing the story.
Though he obviously isn't completely lacking in studio experience, I must say that I find it kind of troubling that none of his scripts ever seem to make it all the way through production. Is it a quality thing or is there some kind of hex at work here? Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
