X-Men & Robin

By Joshua Tyler: 2004-10-01 00:00:00
For those of you who are still a little worried that X-Men 3 might not even happen after the abrupt departure of Bryan Singer… relax. According to multiple sources, Fox has hired screenwriter Simon Kinberg to rustle up a script for the third X-Men film.

To date, Kinberg has done nothing of note that you may have seen, but he is responsible for scripting several upcoming movies, all of which are highly suspect. He’s the guy who wrote the script for the upcoming Vin Diesel-less xXx sequel and also worked on the scripts for Elektra and the Fantastic Four. None of those movies are sure bets and thus do little to lend much confidence towards Kinsberg as a writer yet. He did however write the upcoming Doug Liman movie which I shall not name for fear Fox may threaten me with unwarranted lawsuits. They prefer no one know it exists, but if it did exist I’d tell you that at least the trailer (if I could confirm the existence of one) looks pretty damn good.

Joss Whedon is also still rumored to be in discussions to direct the film, though there’s still nothing official on that.

Great, so we know that X3 is definitely happening. Now if only they can do something to alleviate my fears that they won’t be getting most of the cast back or that they may have hired a mediocre writer and we may end up with another Batman & Robin on our hands. I am not interested in a movie with replacement actors. Curse you Bryan Singer for leaving the greatness of X-Men paddling upriver.
