There's been a rumor for ages now that a movie version of Fallout, the massively popular video game, would be getting made soon. Because, well, duh-- it's popular and a video game, so the movie can't be far behind. But even though Hitman director Xavier Gens has a new movie coming up called The Fallout, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the video game, Yeah, I see a name change coming.

Screen Daily reports that production will start in Eastern Europe next spring, where they will recreate a post-apocalyptic New Yorkand let a bunch of dudes run around shooting each other there. Producer Darryn Welch had some pretty big words to defend the film against anyone else who would dare make a post-apocalyptic movie (i.e., pretty much everyone these days). “With a collective of ‘End of the World’ movies hitting the theatres presently, this film will undoubtedly stand out like a ravenous Pit bull in a school playground… brace yourselves cause this film has a serious bite to it!”

Anyone who saw Hitman probably has reason enough to ignore this project, but I don't even have anything against Gens, and I'm bored. How many more movies do we need about the end of the world before we find something else to obsess about? Couldn't we have just let Roland Emmerich and 2012 have the last word and move on with our lives?
