Zac Efron Cuts Loose, Footloose![]()
Zac Efron was the best part of High School Musical 3, and I'm not just saying that because I fell hard for his baby blue eyes (OK, maybe that's part of the reason). Efron is already the biggest star to emerge from the franchise that kick-started his career, and now he's getting his very own singing-and-dancing showcase-- the one that made Kevin Bacon the well-connected actor he is today.
Paramount is finally getting started on their planned remake of Footloose, with Efron set to star and HSM 3 director Kenny Ortega along as well. Variety says that Efron, who is barely of drinking age and has yet to show the ability to grow facial hair, will make a mid-seven figure salary and have script approval. Producing will be Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who produced hit musicals Chicago, Hairspray and, in Zadan's case, the original Footloose. As someone more in the tank for Efron than I could ever be for any political candidate, I am 100% behind this plan. Efron is starring in 17 AgaIn next spring, but that's a regular comedy that won't take advantage of his musical talents. This is a chance for women older than 13 to swoon over him and get to know him as an actual musical star, unshackled from the Disney machine. |
