Zach Galifianakis is one of the oddest, and therefore one of my favorite, movie stars operating today. He was unknown until The Hangover made him a phenomenon this summer, and he's spent the past few months signing on to a huge number of roles, including the road comedy Due Date with Robert Downey Jr., and showing up in Disney's G-Force for some reason.

Now he's taking on a project that sounds truly fascinating. According to THR Galifianakis is in negotiations to be part of It's Kind of a Funny Story, the next film from Sugar and Half-Nelson directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, about a teenage kid who winds up in a mental institution for adults by accident.

Galifianakis would be one of the major adult characters, which I guess makes him one of the mental patients. Emma Roberts is apparently also in talks to be part of the film, as the teenage love interest of the main character. Boden and Fleck are fascinating filmmakers, and I'm dying to see what they'll do with a story that's a little different from the naturalistic tone of their first two films. Galifianakis being part of the package only makes it more appealing.
