Hey remember Zod? He may be back, get ready to kneel. AICN ran a wild rumor last week.
Terrence Stamp is in Bryan Singer’s current movie, Valkyrie, and their source claims Singer is putting pressure on Stamp to put his Zod boots back on for the next Superman sequel. Stamp was awesome as Zod, one of the few Superman movie villains worth remembering besides Lex Luthor. So, on the surface this might seem like a good idea… except how would it work? Stamp is an old man now, how would he inexplicably have aged so many years since the last time he appeared on screen? I can’t see it working. Besides, isn’t Singer supposed to be getting away from the older movies to make something a little more… fresh for the next film? Bringing Zod back is bound to bring back all the complainers who accused him of simply rehashing the pervious Donner movies.
By the way, last we heard another Superman movie might not even be happening. At least not any time soon. The web is awash with rumors of legal delays and complicated infighting. Singer’s Superman Returns sequel doesn’t really exist at this point. He wants to do it, Warner Brothers wants to do it, but they haven’t actually gotten around to doing it yet. Stamp can’t exactly join the cast of a movie which doesn’t exist. File this rumor under exciting, but unlikely.
